When Marilee Cole and Ronnie Marquez set out for the long trip to a dog show last year, they left with aspirations of blue ribbons but along the way, they discovered they shared a much larger dream-- the desire to own their own business. Today, that dream has become reality with the opening of their new café, Beans, Books & Barks located at 40th Street and Bell in Phoenix . It is a coffee shop with a twist. In addition to the handcrafted espresso-based drinks and gourmet coffee and teas, they also offer quality used books, free Wi-Fi and, later this year, they will add a large shaded patio catering to dog lovers. Folks will be encouraged to bring their furry friends with them to indulge in dog treats by Tail Wagg'n Barkery and water.
“We wanted to combine our love for coffee, books and dogs into a business,” explains Ronnie Marquez, half owner of the unique café. “We are passionate about all three so this really is a dream come true.”
Both women are also passionate about animal rescue. 100% of the tips received are donated to animal rescue groups throughout AZ. A rescue organization will be selected each quarter, and all tips received during that quarter will be donated to the selected animal rescue.
